Latest news on the global transport situation

What is the situation in the Air & Sea sector in January 2021?

Air & Sea News January 2021

sea freight
It is clear that the precarious situation (lack of equipment, overbooked ships) will extend beyond “Chinese New Year” (February 12, 2021).
Bookings that have already been confirmed are rejected; empty containers are in some cases no longer accepted domestically. The price still plays a minor role; although there is the option of VIP loading at the appropriate price, prompt shipping is also not guaranteed here. In return, if the freight is cancelled, costs in the four-digit range are incurred. In the general cargo sector (LCL), ancillary costs are rising steadily and drastically. Alternative options such as Asian rail transport and truck traffic from China are a possible but not reliable option due to overbooking, problems at the borders and upcoming weather conditions.

airfreight
Air freight volumes are still booming, particularly when imported from China. In return, the backbone of air freight — passenger flight — is still reduced by around 90%. There has been a slight easing on individual lines, but prices are still at a relatively high level.

In general
As a result of the tightened “lock down” and the corresponding entry requirements in truck traffic, it cannot be ruled out that supply chains will also stall here. Our planning security is limited by the COVID entry regulation adopted by the federal government. Possible border waiting times are unpredictable.
