Minister President Wüst visits Emons in Cologne

A look at the future of Cologne as a business location

On September 9, 2025, the Emons Cologne branch hosted a special exchange: Minister President Hendrik Wüst (CDU) visited our company as part of a business talk with regional entrepreneurs. The CDU's candidate for mayor in Cologne Markus Greitemann was also part of the event.

Emons set the stage for a discussion on economic conditions and future prospects in Cologne in dialogue with entrepreneurs from the region.

An insight into the world of logistics: tour of the Emons branch

The evening began with a guided tour of our Cologne-based freight forwarding hall, accompanied by CFO Thorsten Heuser, HR manager Christiane Bauer, supervisory board member Herbert Putzmann and branch manager Stephan Schwarz. Mayor candidate Markus Greitemann also joined the tour.

Particular interest was given to the current expansion of the warehouse and the daily scheduling processes. In the open-plan office, it was illustrated how digitization is already making its way into everyday life today — for example through the use of Smartlane, an AI-based support for route planning.

It was emphasized that artificial intelligence does not replace people at Emons, but specifically supports specialists in making processes more efficient and saving resources. Here too, Emons remains true to its own line: sustainable through innovation, combined with social responsibility.

In conversation with politicians: Reducing bureaucracy and future prospects

This was followed by a moderated interview with Minister-President Wüst and candidate for mayor Greitemann in the foyer of the branch.

The interviewees emphasized the need to reduce bureaucracy, digitize the administration and improve framework conditions to strengthen innovation, start-ups and Germany as a business location. Security in public spaces was also emphasized as a decisive factor for quality of life and economic strength.

After an open Q&A session with the guests present, the evening ended in a pleasant atmosphere.

Emons as a driving force in the region

As a medium-sized family company with almost 100 years of history, Emons has always had close ties to the city of Cologne and the region. We are all the more pleased to have hosted this important exchange and, as a logistics company, to contribute to shaping a sustainable, competitive economic landscape.
